“I create art to add beauty and interest to a space. If a piece I have created makes it’s way to a space where it can make someone happy, then I have done my job.”
I am an abstract painter and sculptor living in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, USA. My main interest is in non-objective abstract painting using bold colors and textures, as well as in abstract landscapes. I am a self taught artist who has been creating artworks for over thirty-five years.
I was born in San Diego, California and moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma with my family when I was young boy. I have always been an art lover and have developed a special appreciation for abstract art. My influences include abstract masters Pablo Picasso, Yayoi Kusama, Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollack and Gerhard Richter. I am also influenced by contemporary artists Gary Komarin, Simon Bull, Joe Bradley, Sterling Ruby, Jeanie Gooden and Mark Bradford.
I prefer to work with acrylic and tempera paints and like to texture my canvases with plaster, grout, or paper to give them an uneven quality that adds complexity to the completed pieces. I am also fond of using natural materials when appropriate such as grasses, oats, seeds, flowers, and miscellaneous found objects.
I am a member of several US and international artist groups and have art channels on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok where I share tips on processes and materials for use by other artists. My online channels can be viewed at (Amazing Abstract Art!). I love interacting with fellow artists and sharing methods and information.
I am also a lifelong musician who has played with a variety of musicians. I currently record music with my brother Michael using the group name Groove Niks. Groove Niks have channels on YouTube and Instagram, and their music can be found on most streaming platforms.
