Acrylic, plaster, and oats for texture on high profile canvas (36" W x 36" H x 1.75"D)

This painting reminds me of being deep in the jungle and discovering an ancient archaeological site, like the beginning of Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Its deep copper color and textured surface seem to conceal something mysterious and archaic.

I used a rich copper and other acrylic paints, along with grout and oats for texture. Did he say oats? Yes I did. They are wonderful way to give an artwork a rough texture that is unique and interesting. Finally I gave the piece several coats of non-toxic polyurethane to give it a rich lacquered look.

I hope this painting reminds you of a time when you were deep in a forest or park surrounded by big trees. A time when the their canopy blocked out much of the sunlight and you were surrounded by nature. What did you see as you made your way through the dense undergrowth?

I think this painting gives a room that mysterious, ancient feel.
